Abstract

Illegal dental practice refers to actions performed by individuals who are not registered with the Medical Council but act as if they are official dentists. This phenomenon continues to grow in Indonesia, as evidenced by the rise of beauty salons, aesthetic dental clinics, and mobile dentists operating without official licenses. In Indonesia, illegal dental practice is also experiencing rapid growth, as evidenced by the increasing number of patients visiting dentists after receiving illegal dental treatment. This study aims to assess the extent of public understanding of Maros Regency regarding the social and health impacts of illegal dental practices in Maros Regency. The type of research used is descriptive observational. Where this research is a study tool that includes a series of questions with answers (optional). The sample in this study was conducted using the accidental sampling method, for samples obtained randomly where samples were taken from the population encountered during the data collection period. From the survey conducted, this shows that most people are already aware of dental practices that are generally illegal, and even know the difference between illegal and formal dental practices in the context of dental practice. Negative perceptions of illegal dental practices generally increase with the level of education and public understanding of dental and oral health. The main reason people choose illegal dental practices is because the prices are relatively cheaper. Keywords : Social Impact; Health Impact; Illegal Dental Practice
